VISIT TO SOWE VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL

Wednesday 25th September 2019.

At the invitation of year 6 and their class teacher Miss Pownell, I paid a visit to Sowe Valley Primary School, where I had a wonderful afternoon. First I read part of my book “The Secret of Hideaway Cove”, which is the current class story being used.

After this, each child was given the opportunity to ask me questions as they wished. Every question was interesting and carefully thought out and I was pleased to be able to answer all thirty of them. I’m sure Miss Pownell was proud of every child in her class, for the sensible questions they asked…I know I was.

Towards the end of our time together, I asked the children to write down what they would like in a story if I wrote especially for them. Whilst some had similar ideas, I have overall thirty ideas for future use, most of which I found interesting and thought provoking. Many had also included, the fact that they would like to hear more about my life. I found this quite touching, and am already listing ideas that I think will interest them. It is surprising when looking back, to realise just how different things are now, to when I was their age. I am now looking forward to writing about this for them.

I look forward to using all their ideas at some time in the future, although I’ve found many are already in my new stories, which tells me that I am on the right track, as to what they like in this age range.

I worked at Sowe Valley for many years, and was happy to be invited back in my new capacity. Something I never expected when I retired, and can only hope that the children derived as much pleasure from my visit as I did. Since I had thirty signatures to write for them…I assume that they did.
